Iftar at Luna Lounge & Restaurant ~ Missoni Hotel Kuwait

Y'all don't laugh at my camera phone pictures. We had a great time. :)

Their fried shrimp would make Bubba Gump move to Kuwait. Delicious!!!

I didn't ask for this but the sweet waiter kept bringing us food to try. Their stir-fry is one of the best in Kuwait.

Luna Lounge & Restaurant is located on the 18th floor of the Missoni Hotel.  To quote their brochure: "Under the moonlit sky and the brilliance of the night, we welcome you to Hotel Missoni, in celebration of the holy month of Ramadan."

Part of their charm is the modern Arabic lounge and restaurant which features a mocktail bar, coffee bar and outdoor terrace, all with amazing views of the Arabian Gulf.  They are open from 12pm to 12am daily.

We went to Luna on the second night of our stay and had a wonderful time.  The price was 15kd which was all inclusive. Since I am not a buffet person the waiter assisted me by fixing most of my plates.  I tried a lot of typical Kuwaiti food because the waiter kept bringing us giant plates of food.  Everything I tried was delicious and by far the best quality buffet in Kuwait.  .

I'm glad we went and I would definitely go back to both restaurants at the Missoni.  Staying at the hotel made dining there extra special.

Iftar at Cucina ~ Missoni Hotel Kuwait

Cucina is an Italian restaurant serving classic seasonal Italian Cuisine. The restaurant is located on the 1st floor of the Missoni Hotel. They are open for breakfast from 6am to 11am. Lunch is served from 12:30pm to 3:30pm. Open for dinner from 7pm to 11:30pm.

The Cucina Iftar buffet during Ramadan was priced at 15KD. The chef and most of the staff were Italian. I'm not a fan of buffets but the food was delicious. They had a nice selection and the dishes were fresh and warm. The servers were mostly trainees from Italy but they did a good job waiting on our table.

I look forward to trying Cucina’s À la carte dishes the next time we stay at the Missoni. We were there the weekend before last and both Missoni restaurants only offered a buffet.  This is customary during the Holy month of Ramadan.

All shots were taken by a camera phone so I apologize for their blurry appearance. I promise to bring my camera next time, inshallah.

Thank you Ms. R :*

Hot Chocolate @ The Missoni

When you stay at the Missoni Hotel don't miss out on ordering Hot Chocolate from room service.  I ordered it three days in a row.  Only an American in Kuwait would drink hot chocolate during the Kuwait summer.

Hey Missoni ~ add a cookie or two because the hot chocolate felt naked but delicious. ;P

Loving Six Senses Spa at the Missoni Hotel in Kuwait

The Missoni Hotel's pool was closed for the entire month of Ramadan.

You have to walk outside by the pool to get to the Six Senses Spa.

I really wanted to swim inside their giant pool but inshallah I will get to soon.

The front door to Six Senses Spa. With the pool to the left and some sort of statue (I don't remember) reflecting in the window to the right.

My treatment room where I had an 80 minute De-Stress Massage - 40 KD
Followed by a Purifying/Soothing Facial - 45 KD

This is where you relax and wait for your therapist while drinking their special Six Senses water.

The spa is very quiet and they take extra special care of you.

Even the ceiling has heavenly stars that create a calm atmosphere.

The spa attendant waited with me while my therapists were arranging my room.

The weekend before last I decided to stay at the Missoni Hotel with some of my friends.  Due to a particular law here we ran into a little difficulty.  Thanks to my friend R and M everything worked out just fine.  Thank you ladies!

We wanted to try out the Six Senses Spa and experience their hotel.  The pool was closed for Ramadan but the spa was open the entire day.  I didn’t go there to review the hotel but I wanted to post about my positive experience staying there.  I’m sorry about the poor quality of the cell phone shots but I was too busy enjoying my time to worry about carrying my camera.

When you first arrive to the second floor of the hotel, take a left and walk outside the door to the pool area.  You will see the Six Senses entrance door.  Once you walk inside their staff is waiting to greet you.  If you are a first time visitor they will ask you to fill out some forms.  I was given a cup of their special water while I began to relax.

The spa attendant will walk you to the ladies area where she will give you a tour of their facilities. After changing into your robe you sit and wait on their plush sofa for your therapist to arrive.  Minutes later you are escorted to your room and then the Princess treatment begins.

After the two treatments I returned to my suite to shower and lay down in their amazing bed.  That night we ate at Luna’s on the 18th floor and planned our next stay.  I loved the spa and plan on making the Six Senses a permanent fixture on my calendar.

* Coming Soon ~ More posts about our weekend stay at the Missoni.

Chick Flick Must See ~ 'The Help'

The Help is a 2009 novel by American author Kathryn Stockett. The story is about African American maids working in white households in Jackson, Mississippi during the early 1960s.

The novel is told from the point of view of three narrators: Aibileen Clark, a middle-aged African-American maid who has spent her life raising white children, and who has recently lost her only son; Minny Jackson, an African-American maid whose back-talk towards her employers results in her having to frequently change jobs, exacerbating her desperate need for work as well as her family's struggle with money; and Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, a young white woman and recent college graduate who, after moving back home, discovers that a maid that helped raise her since childhood has abruptly disappeared and her attempts to find her have come to naught. The stories of the three women intertwine to explain how life in Jackson, Mississippi revolves around "the help", with complex relations of power, money, emotion, and intimacy tying together the white and black families of Jackson.

A USA Today article called it one of 2009's "summer sleeper hits". An early review in The New York Times notes Stockett's "affection and intimacy buried beneath even the most seemingly impersonal household connections" and says the book is a "button-pushing, soon to be wildly popular novel". The Atlanta Journal-Constitution said of the book, "This heartbreaking story is a stunning debut from a gifted talent".

The novel is Stockett's first. It took her five years to complete the book, which was rejected by 60 literary agents before agent Susan Ramer agreed to represent Stockett. The Help has since been published in 35 countries and three languages.  As of August 2011, it has sold five million copies and has spent more than a 100 weeks on the The New York Times Best Seller list. I loved this movie and it really made me reflect on my childhood.  The film takes place in the early 1960's but some things hadn't changed even in the 1990's in the Deep South.  This is when I was partially raised until I was around 7 years old by two African American maids, Emma & Gloria.

My family treated them very well but they did wear uniforms and rode the bus to work.  I asked my Mother not too long ago (before I ever heard about the book or movie) what happened to Emma & Gloria and why did she make them wear uniforms? Just like the movie my Mother told me they just quit one day without any explanation and that they preferred to wear uniforms.

I know my parents treated them very well but maybe they left because of my brother. He was a little monster who threatened to have them fired if they didn't serve him ice cream for dinner when my parents were out.  He would throw water balloons down the laundry chute and hit them on the head.  Maybe it was something I did that I can't even write about because it's too embarrassing.

I still remember loving Emma & Gloria and how much I missed them when they were gone.  They were a part of our family and I wish they knew how much I appreciate them now.

Last Weekend I Fell in Love With Nespresso During My Stay At The Missoni Hotel in Kuwait

My Suite overlooking the Arabian Gulf.

Each suite at the Missoni Hotel in Kuwait has a Nespresso Machine.

There is also a tea kettle and abundant supplies for my guests.

My first request ~ for the Bellhop to make me an espresso.

The Bellhop called for backup when he found out I had visitors coming, "The Girls". :)

I haven't had the time to download the photographs and post about my weekend at the Missoni Hotel.  (Inshallah, I will very soon.)

I spent two nights there last weekend and tried all of their restaurants and the Six Senses spa.  I stayed in the two room suite which was simply amazing.  The view of the Arabian Gulf was beyond spectacular.  The one thing I had to have after my stay at the Missoni was my own Nespresso Machine.

The night I arrived home (Saturday) this was waiting for me.

I also received a lifetime supply of espresso sleeves, brown sugar and limited edition Nespresso cups.

All I wanted was the simplest machine (espresso for blondes) but what I received instead was this all in one, spectacular model.

I need a closet just for my Nespresso sleeves!

Thank you to my Kuwaiti Santa for making my Nespresso dreams come true way before Christmas. ;)

Mi Piace il Cioccolato at Dolce Antico

Al Plaza Mall in Hawalli, Kuwait

He heard about this place from friends and told me he wanted to try their chocolate.  He took photographs to send and tease me while I was stuck at work.

They fixed him coffee and gave him samples of chocolates to try.

He is very romantic and has an obsession with the world's best chocolates.

I shared with my friends and everyone loved them.
