From one of my apartment windows I can see a bus stop on a popular highway...
This morning I was drinking my coffee and catching up on my favorite Kuwaiti blogs when I noticed a white Mercedes with dark tinted windows pull over to the bus stop. There were two ladies waiting for a bus dressed in long dresses and hijab. They didn't look Kuwaiti from the style of their clothes but my window is far away. Maybe they are from another Arab country or East Asia?
One of the ladies walked up to the passenger's side window and started talking to the driver of the car. I couldn't tell who was in the car because the windows were very dark. Maybe it was one guy or more? I couldn’t imagine it was a girl with dark tinted windows but I could be wrong. Then she turns to the other lady standing about ten or more feet away and I just knew she was asking her to get in the car with her. I was thinking NO!!! Don't do it! How could you even consider getting into a strangers car? I was hoping that if she did get in his Mercedes that her friend would get in with her (safety in numbers). She might have a chance at escaping with her friend if the situation turned dangerous. Suddenly she gets in the front seat, passenger's side and her friend does not join her. She remains at the bus stop as this stupid, daring lady drives off with a total stranger down the highway.
My heart sank thinking was she so oblivious to the dangers of hitchhiking? Does she read the Arab Times Crime section? Is she so poor that she was willing to take the risk? Or is she a prostitute who was just waiting at the bus stop for a customer to drive by and pick her up? I guess I will never know but I pray for her safety because nobody deserves something terrible to happen to them no matter how ignorant or immoral they are in their life.
