Do Gentlemen Prefer Blondes? According to a survey by Mail Online (article below), Men prefer blondes for girlfriends... but would rather marry a brunette. For slightly more than half of the men quizzed, dates with blonde women have outnumbered dates with brunettes, with 19 percent saying this was because the blondes were sexier. Meanwhile just under half said blondes make the best girlfriends because they have more outgoing personalities.
Contrast: Men would like to date blondes such as Paris Hilton and Scarlett Johansson (pictured above with both blonde and brunette hair) but they would marry brunettes like Girls' Aloud star Cheryl Cole.
All this might come as good news to actress Sienna Miller, who has been nicknamed 'Serial Miller' for dating a string of famous men but has never married. Less palatable to Miss Miller will be what the poll reveals about men's longer-term affections - which lean towards brunettes like Angelina Jolie, married to Brad Pitt and mother of six including three adopted children.
In all, 52 percent of men said they would rather marry a dark-haired woman because they are more dependable and sensible - whereas only 18 percent think blondes would make good wives.
Hairdresser Andrew Collinge, whose brand carried out the poll, said: 'Our research shows just how much men judge a woman by their hair color. 'It's always been said that blondes have more fun and men obviously enjoy going out for dates with blondes as well as upgrading them to girlfriend status.
'But when it comes to marriage, men seem to opt for brunettes as they see them as more dependable and down to earth. 'This is really surprising when you think we're in 2010 and the blonde vs. brunette debate is still rumbling on - I'm surprised as I thought men were more modern than this.'
Pollsters quizzed 3,000 men, of whom 36 percent said blondes were sexier against 31 percent for brunettes. Nearly 37 percent thought blondes were more fun, compared with just 32 percent preferring the company of brunettes. But 53 percent thought brunettes more reliable and 49 percent said they were the most loving.
Also in the brunettes' favor are their abilities as home organizers and mothers, according to 51 percent of men questioned; and as cooks, according to 48 percent. Fifty percent of men also admitted their wife's hair color was different to that of most of their girlfriends.
