Rest in Peace Sweet Layla

Layla Lloyd: “She will be missed by many people”

Tributes for girl killed in accident

Friends and family in the UK and the Gulf have been mourning the death of British expatriate Layla Lloyd, who lost her life in a tragic car accident in Doha earlier this month.

Layla, 29, had only arrived in Qatar some three months earlier, having relocated from Kuwait, where her former colleagues and friends recently organised a fundraising event following her death on July 17.

The hairstylist worked at the Glow American Salon in Qatar, and was already a popular member of staff despite having been here for such a short length of time.

Gulf Times spoke to her colleagues here, who expressed their shock at the passing of a friend they described as “lovely,” “sweet,” and “beautiful.”

“She was so friendly and would prepare food for all of us to bring into work,” said one colleague, adding “she was good fun and such a beautiful girl.”

Colleagues expressed their shock at being informed about Layla’s death in the early hours of the morning, and said they simply could not believe the tragic passing of their friend.

Inspired by the fundraising event in Kuwait, friends and family in Newport, where Lloyd was born, have also arranged a charity walk from Cardiff to her place of birth, to take place on Sunday.

UK-based Dionne Johnson, who is helping to organise the fundraiser, told Gulf Times that Layla was a well-loved friend, who will be sorely missed by people all over the world.

“Layla was truly, a beautiful person, inside and out,” she said, noting “she will be missed by many people from all countries and continents.”

“We hope our fundraiser will help ease the strain on her family at such a tragic time,” she added.

Her former colleagues at the Strands Salon and Nail Bar in Kuwait also posted a tribute online, saying: “Layla, may you DAZZLE and DANCE amongst the stars above. You will be missed but never forgotten.”

Layla was the first person to cut and style my hair in Kuwait. I was very sad to read that she was killed in a car crash in Doha, Qatar on July 17th just months after she moved from Kuwait.  Layla was only 29 years old.

I was reading one of my favorite blogs: Ladies Who Do Lunch in Kuwait when I saw her post on the death of Layla. (See post link above.)

Rest in Peace beautiful, sweet Layla. My condolences to her family and loved ones.
