Only in Kuwait ~ Boy Caught Driving Car While Driver is Sleeping in the Back Seat

Mother Claims Allowing Young Son to Drive in Kuwait

Kuwait Times, Aug 26, 2011: Police have arrested a 10-year-old boy for driving a car without a license. He was caught on the King Fahd Expressway, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.

According to a security source the boy was caught by a police officer while on his way to work in the morning.

It has been reported the officer saw the car moving at normal speed but he could hardly see the person behind the wheel. He ordered the motorist to pull over and was shocked to find the boy behind the wheel.

What was even worse in the passenger seat was another four-year-old boy and an Asian man fast asleep on the back seat.

Later it was discovered the man on the back seat is a newcomer to Kuwait and has been hired by the family as driver but he has yet to get his driving license.

The teenage driver didn’t even panic and when the officer made an attempt to remove the key from the engine he challenged the officer saying he has the right to drive his father’s car.

The officer then contacted the Operations Department of the Interior Ministry, arrested the two boys and the Asian and took them to the Sabahiya police station.

The police then contacted the boy’s parents and it was the mother who answered the phone. In an angry tone she told the officer that it was she who allowed her son to drive the car on the road.

Late in the evening the boy’s father came to the police station and admitted that he was responsible for allowing the boy to drive.

The boy was eventually referred to the Juvenile Traffic Court for legal action against him and his father.
